According to website monitoring firm Pingdom, more than 90 trillion e-mails were sent last year, meaning that we hit the send button 247 billion times a day. Undeniably, businesses depend upon e-mail to communicate, but, unfortunately, our dependence on e-mail can often lead to inbox overload.

Undeniably, businesses depend upon e-mail to communicate, but, unfortunately, our dependence on e-mail can often lead to inbox overload.
Business communications provider Intermedia recently sponsored a Harris Interactive survey to better understand how work-related e-mail impacts stress levels of U.S. small-business workers. The survey found that 94 percent of respondents felt they could receive a maximum of 50 work-related e-mails each day without feeling overwhelmed.
