Beware LinkedIn’s new mobile app

The New York Times says that LinkedIn’s new Intro app is ‘a dream for attackers’. I agree with them.

Here’s how they describe the app. “Intro is an e-mail plug-in for iOS users that pulls LinkedIn profile information into e-mails so that the sender’s job title appears front-and-center in e-mails on a user’s iPhone or iPad.”

Sounds cool. Except there are serious security issues with this app and the way it fundamentally works. It routes all your mail through LinkedIn servers. This essentially puts them in the critical path for email security and makes them a target for our employee’s information.

It’s just a bad idea. And until LinkedIn addresses it, I highly recommend that Intermedia customers and partners avoid the app.
