Partners: Intermedia CEO Mike Gold talks Canadian channel opportunities with Channelnomics
In August, we opened our Canadian datacenter in Vancouver. We told you then that we saw a lot of opportunity for our channel partners to help Canadian businesses. And building a datacenter in Canada was a logical part of the process of supporting those partners. You can now offer your customers locally hosted IT services including Hosted Exchange, Skype® for Business, SharePoint® and Encrypted Email.
Now, the channel press is writing about Canada, too.
“Data residency is very important to our customers, particularly those in Government, Oil and Gas,” said Intermedia partner Leonardo Soto, President of SotoNets Cloud Solutions, when we talked to a few of our partners about data residency. “Many regional governments in Canada require data to be stored within the country. Having the opportunity to offer customers enterprise-class services hosted in Canada is a tremendous value-add to our business. I can’t think of any other service that is more reliable than Intermedia, and now we can offer it locally.”
This article, written by Scharon Harding, explores the regulatory climate in Canada and specifically, the requirement under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) that regulated companies store their data in-country.
Harding also spoke to Intermedia CEO Mike Gold about the ramifications of PIPEDA to managed service providers like SotoNets when serving regulated customers, and why Intermedia chose Vancouver for the datacenter location:
“Now those channel partners who want to service the needs of customers that need to have their data stored in Canada can do that,” said Gold. “Why Vancouver over any other city? It’s a thriving Canadian city, and we have a large partner concentration in Vancouver. It just made sense to do it there.”
And as more and more companies move their email and other IT services to the cloud, our partners in Canada can help ensure that those customers remain in compliance with PIPEDA while still enjoying the increased security and reliability that the cloud offers. The way we see it, it’s a win-win-win.
