Does your email solution meet the New Standard?
Business email has come a long way. I remember when we all used on-premises Exchange servers, when that was the height of high tech for corporate email. Now, of course, we’re told that the cloud is where it’s at—that our closet full of servers is a thing of the past.
And that’s great. I encourage everyone I talk with to move their business apps to the cloud because a cloud email provider can offer far more functionality, reliability and protection than most businesses ever could deliver on-premises. But as with all things, it’s not as simple as just moving to the cloud. Don’t get stuck with the “old standard” of business email
But before we can talk about what makes up the New Standard and why it’s important, we need to define what makes up the “old standard”. The old standard often, but not exclusively, refers to on-premises email or cloud email that doesn’t adequately address all the requirements business users require today.
For example, users need 24/7/365 access to their email but most on-premises deployments and many cloud providers like Office 365, aren’t able to support high levels of reliability. So if there was a natural disaster or an outage, employees could be without their email for days.
Another example is mailbox storage quotas. On premises and lower-end Office 365 plans impose strict mailbox storage quotas on users. This not only interferes with the user’s workflow it could also cause them to delete important data. And these are just a few of the ways the “old standard” doesn’t meet all the needs of today’s user.
Meet the New Standard of business email
To meet the New Standard email should be hosted in the cloud, secured and backed up. Email should be available near 100% of the time, shouldn’t impose mailbox quotas on users and should come with 24/7 support.
