New Research Shows Video Conferencing Now Considered A Workplace Necessity

The way we define both the “workplace” and “workday” is changing. That’s why we conducted the research behind our Workplace Communications Report. In our first blog post of this series, we explored how mobile work applications have redefined when and how employees work.

In today’s blog post, we’ll dive deeper into the technology that keeps employees connected. Our findings show that video conferencing has gone from a “nice-to-have” to a vital necessity in conducting business. In fact, more than one-in-four survey respondents say they would not take a position at a company if they did not offer certain tools for communicating. Video and conferencing services came in just after a mobile phone and ahead of instant messaging. We also found that organizational leaders prefer to communicate with colleagues via video and web conferencing more than any other method.

Video conferencing also plays a critical role in helping companies and employees save travel time and money. When considering their experiences over the last three years:

  • 75% of organizational leaders say their work travel has been reduced due to expanded video conferencing capabilities
  • 59% of knowledge workers say they always prefer using video conferencing over work travel, with 73% of knowledge workers who work remotely half the time or more saying work-related travel has been reduced due to the availability of video and web conferencing services
