Intermedia, a global leader in cloud services and the world’s largest Microsoft Exchange hosting provider, announced it now manages over 400,000 premium Microsoft Exchange mailboxes on behalf of its customers and partners. Intermedia customer Earth NetworksSM, which provides the largest global weather, lightning and climate observation networks and owns the WeatherBug® brand, is recognized as adding the 400,000th Exchange mailbox as part of their Intermedia Office in the Cloud suite of business communications services.

Earth Networks combines neighborhood-level local data from its own network of more than 8,000 professional weather stations with information from other sources, such as the National Weather Service (NWS) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), to provide users access to the largest source of weather data from around the world. Observations from Earth Networks also inform and alert consumers, enterprises and governments around the world, providing them with advanced environmental intelligence for decision making and safety.

The company recently transitioned from an on-premises server to the cloud and now offers its nearly 200 employees a unified communications platform from Intermedia. The platform includes Intermedia’s hosted Exchange 2010 for email; hosted PBX and Conference Bridges for voice; SharePoint for document management; hosted BlackBerry and ActiveSync for mobility; as well as Fax via Email, resource mailboxes and UserPilot™ - Intermedia’s proprietary service enabling users to log-in securely to their on-premises and hosted applications.

“As a company that serves a multitude of entities including business enterprises, consumers and government agencies, we need to communicate weather and climate information quickly and efficiently across our large user base,” says Earth Networks vice president and chief information officer Lex Crosett. “By unifying and migrating our business communications to the cloud with Intermedia, we can better maintain the flexibility necessary to focus on our core information service business and our customers.”

Intermedia grew from 300,000 to 400,000 premium Exchange mailboxes in only 10 months. The company attributes the fast-paced growth to its commitment to delivering superior value to customers, as well as its Office in the Cloud bundles that cost effectively combine Microsoft tools such as Exchange 2010 email, Lync Secure Instant Messaging, and SharePoint document management with “only from Intermedia” resources for premium support, complete mobile freedom, security, back-up, PBX-VoIP and more.

“Intermedia is continuing to align ourselves closely with our core customer – the small and medium-sized business – by bringing new products to market that they, and our partners, are eager for,” says Phil Koen, chairman and CEO, Intermedia. “Our customers recognize that with us they receive more than a mailbox – they get an Office in the Cloud built with their needs in mind – it is secure, always on and we’re ready to support them 24/7. We’re excited to count Earth Networks as one of those customers and look forward to a long relationship with them.”
